Sam Smith missed the glitz and glamour of the Billboard music awards last night (Sunday) following surgery to repair damage caused by a haemorrhage on his vocal cords.
The soul singer, who went to school in Bishop's Stortford, won the top new artist, top radio songs artist and top male artist gongs.
He came up with a novel way of accepting the latter, appearing via video with messages written on cue cards.
